I have tried using Hyperterminal to work on-line without success. When I use Hyperterminal the log-in is OK but is followed by seemingly random characters after which the line disconnects. Basically, Pat, you just can't use HyperTerminal to connect to Demon. This is down to how data is sent/received.

How to use hyperterminal to check connection?
As an educated guess, I would say, start up Hyperterminal on the receiving end and start "Receive File". The default "Zmodem" should be fine. Then start up Hyperterminal on the sending end and set up a connection to the other computer. Dial into it, then once you are connected, "Send file".
